Declutter Challenge Series: Grocery Budget, Week III

Hello. The third week of the November Declutter Challenge Series is now complete. Below, you will find the details that I’ve incorporated in our weekly meal plan for the week of Nov. 19 to Nov. 25. It’s feeling like rain outside, dark and windy. Not the type of Monday weather I’d like to start the week; but, at least it’s not cold. I can probably get away with wearing short sleeves this morning while I do some errands for tonight’s dinner get together at my place. (Plus, I got a couple of runs for “cyber” Monday Christmas shopping to do. So busy day today for me.) Let’s get started.

Just a little bit of background in case this is the first time you’ve stumbled on this decluttering challenge.  I’m looking to trim my grocery expense this month and going forward on our one income family household budget. I believe this is a great journey to partake as we are looking to retire from the military in the near future. Lots of changes are about to happen because of. A typical week for us accrues an approximate of $150/week grocery expense and I am challenging myself to decrease it by $25 and I have been successful thus far for Week 1 and Week 2.

This third week, we had Thanksgiving and lots of family get together. Grocery expense for this week was over what I projected but still within our typical grocery expense. I would have very much wanted to successfully stay within $125; but, I’m going to let this week pass because there were a lot of things happening this week and I did save from Week 1 and 2, which allowed for some leeway to work into this third week. I will say though that some of the items we bought this week will carry on to future weeks, which technically lessens the expense this week but an accrued expense is an accrued expense for the purpose of simplicity, so the whole cost gets added to the week it was purchased.

Final Words

Winding down onto the 4th and final week of this November Declutter Challenge this current week. Let’s see how I fair. Ate out a whole lot this week, celebrated the return of my mom after a month-long Europe vacation and her 70th birthday. And honestly, my brain was all over the place this week to prepare for Thanksgiving, space decluttering for the get together, and outing preparations. I hope this current week will be a little more laid back.

We are having dinner at our place today, my sister is in town and staying with us for about a week, and will accrue some grocery expense, not because she eats a lot; but, I am in the mood to cook and learn more recipes to share with someone vegan. (I’m the only vegan in my fam.) I’m looking at making 3 different type of dishes and a dessert because I have both vegan and non-vegans in the mix of family guests. I will try to incorporate what I have at home to free up some space, but chances are, I’d buy more food to make today.

Until next time.
